THE DESIGN: There are several salt lakes in the Northern Territory of Australia.  Lake Amadeus is the longest salt lake and is approximately 180km (110 miles) long and 10km (6.2 miles) wide.  It is estimated that the lake contains 600 million tons of salt and due to the aridity of the area, the surface of the lake forms a salt crust. After heavy rains salt from Lake Amadeus is washed into the nearby Kinke River.  

Heather Kennedy has a strong sense of colour and design and she has captured the patterned crusty surface of the salt lake and its nearby surroundings with precision and excellent use of colour.
